for mixed chorus (SATB a cappella)

The Kyrie is one of those things that has been around for so long and has touched so many people that it is ubiquitous in much of the western world. Though quite firmly rooted in the liturgy, I have found the text to be much more universal in expression and mostly separate of its original context, thus allowing for greater nuance in its setting.
Of course, all of that being said, this is a pretty typical setting of the text. Its neo-renaissance approach notwithstanding, this piece served as a catalyst for me to solidify a more modal voice of composition, abandoning much of the music I thought I should write for the music I wanted to write.
